Copies of Year Journal '11 (Book of Deeds Vol. 200)

I declare this a squalid year ~ one that only the Chinese can change the fortune of...I declare this is the year of collecting pens - when I find out from the Chinamen where the local herbalist lives and where I can learn to become a medicine man & Chinese herbalist ~ I've been a Taoist for 10 years & I want to learn Chinese, the culture, learn TCM & Baguazang - most of all I desire to live in health and fruitful (ly-ness) for all of my days ~ only people that keep their culture's intact~that above all, is what I honor - a plan & passing of knowledge~not fate.

Notes: Medical Application Essay reminder

The greatest capacity of the human body is the ability to heal itself. This is the coda I've lived by for years. I plan to study medicine, not surgergy - because I read that Taoist's as a first option chose food as a remedy, then medicine, only surgery as a last resort ~ did you know the Chinese have an herbal remedy for appendicitis? I was born to help others ~ I know the trend of Western Medicine is moving toward alternative methods ~ we've got to compromise ~ it will take baby steps to get to the promise land. Just another great cultural change is upon us - China is rising - the country that historically has done the most medical research.
My idol is Li Ching Yuen ~ an expert on longevity and medicine. To me, my life is an experiment - bring everyone back from death's door I say - incurable diseases have cures - it just takes research and risks.
To many a cure is unobtainable - for some that's my point - I believe in magic - not in a fantastical sense - in a medical sense (context)
My practice will include Chinese, herbalism lectures & Chinese Martial Arts - Drs. are martial artists.

I learned today about the preliminary $90,000 invested into refurbishing Buck Hill Falls Resort - a construction group with ties to Falls Rd, VA & a family that vacationed here years ago. Signs that I really see coming - those unused resorts/restored, unused railroad tracks, used 3-4 times a week can lift passenger & communities 3 or 4 of the days between the freight lines - is that manageable - new jobs, more vacationers - it would be nice to see the dream to fruition - Scranton to Mt. Excerpts from Between Heaven and Earth

They then become quick to blame the doctor for their problems, jumping into malpractice litigation. Suing for malpractice becomes an act of revenge, an attempt on the part of the patient to gain power over the doctor, not a reclamation of true self-power. The doctor is either a hero or villain - heralded for recovery or blamed for poor outcomes.

OTHER PARADOXES

Power, no matter who has it, does not confer wisdom. Doctors sometimes equate their authority with sagacity. Some interventions produce disastrous long-term effects on health. Iatrogenesis, or doctor-induced illness, can result from drugs, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Iatrogenesis is one of the leading causes of fatal disease. Approximately one out of every five people admitted to a research hospital aquires an iatrogenic illness.
Nobel-prize winning microbiologist Rene Dubos describes the new threats to health arising out of technological innovation. He says it is a painful and richly documented paradox that every drug of proven worth can itself become a cause of disease.

Some of the toxic effects are extremely indirect and delayed. They result from disturbances in the
physiological and ecological equilibrium of the organism. Their mechanism does not reside in
chemical or physiological reactions involving direct cause-effect relationship, but rather in
complex interrelated responses made by the whole integrated organism, including its indigenous
       microbiota.

Another consequence of focusing more attention on the disease than the patient is that the doctor can eradicate the tumor but has no means of promoting the health of the patient. This enables one to say, "The treatment was a success, but the patient died." For example, chemotherapy claims success at treating the disease and yet cannot necessarily improve the longevity of the patient. John Cairns of the Harvard School of Public Health states:

Each year about 3,000 patients under age 30 are being cured by chemotherapy who would
otherwise have died. Only two percent of the patients who die of cancer are under 30, however.
For the vast majority of cancers, which arise in older patients, the results of chemotherapy are
much more controversial...Apart from the success with Hodgkin's disease, childhood leukemia and a
few other cancers, it is not possible to detect any sudden change in death rates for any of the major
cancers that would be credited to chemotherapy.

...Stagnant Qi can also obstruct the Spleen, affecting its ability to generate and distribute Moisture and Nutritive Essence in the body. This impairment of Spleen function results in teh accumulation of Dampness and the attrition of vitality. The fluid excess itself then may become a secondary source of stagnation since it impedes the flow of Qi. The body often generates Heat to counteract this fluid excess by drying it. This Heat then accumulates and intermingles with the Dampness. Damp Heat can settle in the pelvis, where it damages and obstructs the Blood. Over time this will lead to coagulation and deficiency of Blood. Damp Heat in the Liver also sets the stage for problems such as jaundice and hepatitis. In men the manifestations of stagnated Liver Qi with Damp Heat are prostatitis, epididymitis, urethritis, and painful ejaculation.

...One the one hand, they just want their troubles to dissapear, they want to be "fixed" so that they can go on with their lives unimpeded. On the other, they are curious about the origin and meaning of their difficulties and discomforts, suspecting that greater insight will enable them to avoid future problems. People want to know: "How come I have the trouble that I do? Where does it come from? How can I understand it? What can I do about it? How can I prevent it from recurring?

Acupuncturists, more than anybody, can comprehensively answer these questions.

...Warm, dry condiments (ginger, pepper, parsley, and cardomom) help her eliminate gs and moisture.

...These include detoxifying, antiinflammatory, antiphlogistic herbs (scrophularia, scutellaria, forsythia) and those that stimulate discharge of unrine (grifola), sweat (ephedra), phlegm (pinellia), uningested food (radish), and feces (senna). Such herbs are employed in situations where chronic accretions persist.

ASTRAGALUS

Astragalus tonifies Qi. When Qi is depleted, a person feels weak, tired, apathetic, breathless, and clammy and is vulnerable to infection. Grown in the wilds of Outer Mongolia, this fibrous yellow root strengthens metabolism, respiration, and immunity. It warms the limbs and muscles, dispels Cold and Dampness from the internal organs, and fortifies the Spleen, Lung, and Kidney. Modern research studies speak about astragalus as a "biological response modifier" that increases the adaptive function of the adrenal cortex and the production of white blood cells (particularly macrophages and T-cells) red blood cells, hormones such as interferon, and protective proteins called immunoglobins. Because it inhibits the depression of bone marrow and extends the reproductive life of healthy cells by 50 percent, astragalus is used to support immune-compromised patients such as those undergoing radiation and chemotherapy and those with ARC and AIDS. It protects the liver from fatty degeneration caused by poisons like carbon tetrachloride, promotes diuresis, lowers blood pressure, and increases overall stamina and endurance.

I had an idea, a vision of a professional uniform, something pleasing to the eye, with the keystone piece being a tag with credentials, photo, passport info, driver's license, etc., etc.:

Instead of the difficult task of constantly choosing "Posts," "edit posts" etc. I'm simply going to start a new post, this one on miscellaneous nutrition facts I took from both Daniel Reid & others. Proceed with caution & skepticism. Tread lightly:

On the subject of Basil:
"Scientifically prepared basil oil is more concentrated than even the strongest home infusion or tincture...it probably won't hurt to try a strong fragrant infusion or tincture of basil. Apply with a cotton ball to freshly washed skin...use 2 to 3 teaspoons of dried leaves per cup of boiling water. Steep 10 to 20 minutes. Drunk up to 3 cups a day and enjoy basil's rich, warm aroma and minty, mildly peppery taste...In a tincture, use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon up to three times daily.

Longevity Legend Revived

Gotu kola wasn't used much during the early 20th century, but after World War II it was included in an herb tea blend called Fo-Ti-Tieng...boost longevity, reviving the ancient Sinhalese claim....Li Ching Yun...lived 256 years, surviving 23 wives...gotu kola re-emerged from obscurity as an herbal tonic.

Burdock (Beggar's buttons, Clotbur, Japanese name of gobo)
To perform some arduous task "I need gobo." It grows alongside roads, in ditches, hedgerows, and waste places throughout most of the United States and Canada. It has long, dull green stalks and large oval shaped leaves with many veins, resembling rhubarb...grow burdock, set seeds 1/4 inch deep in rows about 2 ft. apart...seedlings are established, thin them to a distance of about 6 inches apart...thrive in a deep bed of well-rotted compost, manure, sawdust, leaf mold, woodchips, and other light, loose materials. Sawdust is especially good addition to the bed because it increases porosity and makes it easier to pull up the roots...harvesting its roots...end of the growing season in the plant's first year of growth...fresh root is skinned and sliced into thin rounds and added to soups, vegetables, stir-fries, and meat dishes. Rich tasting miso broth, fortified with sea and land vegetables, including burdock, is a classic Japanese soup...saute peeled, sliced burdock root in a little vegetable oil for about 5 minutes...Add sliced onions, carrots, bok choy, 1 cup rehydrated hiziki or wakame seaweed to the vegetables, stir in 1 1/2 cups of water for ever serving of soup. Simmer, uncovered, until all the vegetables are tender. Combine 2 table-spoons of the soup liquid plus 1 heaping tablespoon miso for each serving in a bowl and stir until the miso dissolves. Stir in the disolved MISO. Serve hot...CONTAIN 10 to 20% MORE MINERALS THAN LAND PLANTS.

Chamomile

Roman or common chamomile, low growing plant, tiny, daisy-like flowers. Roman has single flowers, plant has a downy grayish green appearance, a mound-like shape...double-flowered form is preferred for healing uses.

Dandelion
Sow the seeds about 12 inches apart in shallow drills...harvest dandelion flowers from cultivated beds before they go to see to avoid an unwanted proliferation of the plant...the root of the plant contains levulose, a sugar easily assimilated by diabetics...autumn, this sugar has changed to inulin, a starch also easily assimilated by diabetics...spring or fall, fresh dandelion roots can be peeled, parboiled, and sauteed to be served as a tasty vegetable...dandelion root - chop the roots into small pieces and dry them in a warm, airy place, or in a slow dryer at a temperature not over 100 degrees F, people with a generally sensitive stomach may benefit from the roasted fresh root. Chop and roast it in the oven until it turns a rich brown color and feels very brittle. Roasted dandelion root is sometimes used as a coffee substitute or as an addition to coffee.

Ginseng
The growing range of wild ginseng runs from Pennsylvania north into Canada and south to Georgia along the Appalachian Mountains then west to Minnesota..grows wild only in very remote regions of China, Japan, and Korea...American ginseng cohabits with other shade-and-moisture-loving plants such as wild ginger, may apples, goldenseal, rattlesnake fern, and jack-in-the-pulpit...under ash, basswood, oak, elm, hickory, maple, and other deciduous trees...under pines, cedars, firs...first year the plant sends up but one leaf. The second year it produces two leaves, each divided in turn into five leaflets. In its third year, it produces a third leaf and some greenish yellow flowers, followed by clusters of red berries. The mature ginseng plant is from 10 to 20 inches high...good stand of hardwood trees or mixed hardwoods and conifers on a north slope...shade canopy of 70% or more, ytou have the right kind of wild environment for the cultivation of ginseng...To stimulate this natural process, gardeners can soak the seeds in a mixture of 1 part liquid household bleach and 9 parts water for 5 minutes. Then rinse the seeds thoroughly. Sow ginseng seeds in the fall by pressing them into soil to a depth of 1/2 inch. They take anywhere from 8 months to two years to germinate.

(That is of course after you feed ginseng berries to birds that make them softened enough)

AS THE SEEDS PASS THROUGH THE BIRD'S DIGESTIVE SYSTEM, HYDROCHLORIC ACID IN THE BIRD'S STOMACH PREPARES THEM FOR GERMINATION

Five feet between each Ginseng plant is a minimum...ginseng must grow for six or seven years before it's root is ready to harvest. Nine years of growth produces a far superior root...valuable specimens have been found with growth rings indicating their age to be 400 years....ginsenosides, which have been found to possess adaptogenic (anti-stress) properties than does the dried root...they clean the fresh roots and put them in a basket, which is in turn placed in a closed earthenware steamer. The steamer is set on top of an iron pot of boiling water. This water often contains the Chinese herbal bark known as sa woo, and its medicinal essence penetrates penetrates the root as they steam...Then the roots (which must never be smokedhttp://www.amazon.com/Honeyrose-Ginseng-Tobacco-Nicotine-Cigarettes/dp/B004GIXKK4) are carefully dried over a slow-burning wood fire or in a drying house. After a week to ten days the dried roots are dark red or maroon, and translucent, hard, and brittle - Red Ginseng in the herb trade. You can also dry ginseng roots in the sun after washing them thoroughly. When dry store them in a glass jar...special guild of ginseng hunters called va-pang-suis searched for the plant at night with bows and arrows. The plant, it was said, emitted a light of its own, and moved around at night. It was only with tiny arrows with string attached to them that the hunters were able to catch the roots. James Duke, a researcher at the USDA Economic Botany Laboratory, challenged the Chinese belief that ginseng moved around at night. Doubting such a claim, he planted 100 ginseng plants in an experimental garden. When he found that the next morning nearly half of the roots had moved (or been moved) out of the hole, but were uneaten, he replanted them. Again half the plants were disturbed during the night. Dr. Duke now professes some credence in "Chinese sayings that are difficult to believe."

In modern times, Russia, China, and Korea have engaged in a good deal of scientific research in an attempt to document the medicinal claims for ginseng. The noted Russian scientist I.I. Brekhman has conducted the extensive research on ginseng's ability to increase the body's resistance to illness...Apparently, ginseng positively affects the adrenal cortex, relieving its need to produce stress-combating hormones in large amounts.

Mugwort
It can always be identified by its strong, slightly heady aroma. It can be found growing wild along roadsides, hedgerows, stream banks, and waysides throughout Europe, Asia, and North America...Plants are also available from some herb nurseries...used it to regulate and bring on menses...mugwort tea.

Magic Waters Beauty Bath
dried rosemary flowers, chopped comfrey roots, and thyme. This actually equals 2 cups of herbs in the original recipe, but you can reduce the mixture 1 3/4 or 1 1/2 cups, and make an infusion in 1 qt. of water...add some rose petals to this bath, both for their fragrance and their hydrating powers...MAKE SURE TO STRAIN THE INFUSION THROUGH CHEESECLOTH BEFORE YOU ADD IT TO THE BATHWATER.

BOOKS FOR REFERENCE*********************European Herbal Healers (and Assassins)
The Ebers Papyrus, 1,000 years of an ancient Egyptian medicine and listed 876 herbal formulas made from more than 500 plants

De Materia Medica (On Medicines) first truly medical botanist, Pedanius Dioscorides

David Hoffmann's Holistic Herbal: "Hawthorn is one of the best tonic remedies for the heart...herbalist also suggest it for kidney stones and as a sedative for chronic insomnia

Herbal treatment for acne:
chaste tree, calendula, wild yam, motherwort, false unicorn root
external treatment: plantain, calendula, elderflower, chamomile, or distilled witch hazel
residual scarring: comfrey, chickweed, calendula, aloe vera gel, lavender, or vitamin E oil regularly to heal the skin.

Rx for Barberry
For a decoction, use 1/2 teaspoon of powdered root bark, boiled in a cup water for 15 to 30 minutes...lower strength preparation and increase strength if necessary...this herb's edible berries are used to make jams and jellies. The berry juice may substitute for lemon juice.

Feverfew
For migraine control, chew two fresh (or frozen) leaves a day, or take a pill or capsule containing 85 milligrams of leaf material

Sit and drink pennyroyal tea
Folk healers also recommended aromatic pennyroyal garlands for headache and dizziness

Yerbe Mate
a noncaffeine coffee substitute

Horse's tail (Horsetail)
It contains nicotine, and some herbalists suggest it as a nicotine substitute for smokers attempting to quit. However, compared to the amount in cigarettes, horsetail's nicotine content is minute, only about 00004 percent, and is unlikely to satisfy a smoker's craving. Prescription nicotine gum would be a better alternative.

It's called America

My friend Edmundo Morales had these very portentous remarks during the weekend Hurricane Katrina hit & this political cartoon put it perfectly (Bill Watterson started as a Cincinnati political cartoonist I believe). Milt Friggee is the cartoonist.

I had a moment of clairvoyance as I woke up in the middle of the night, hallucinating that I was perched on a college loft, and I started writing furiously:

"It's called America, look yourself in the mirror - exactly like that I had a beautiful dream, w/ exception of dudes fighting over my room, w/ Chris and wondering huh?

Had a bit of a revelation - we have solutions to these problems - recycling, conservation of energy (Dep. of Natural Resources), (worry - gobbling up natural resources Malthus - kill Malthus

But the beauty was of the college canopy - the loft I woke up in & the comfort - I saw my old friends from college and high school & even posed the question - if we ran things, with the exception of the student government, who would rule - I should tell young school students - this is as close to normalcy you'll ever get.

I am feeling as though this repressed rage is coming out very conveniently and constructively.

Why, with all the resources for a most importantly healthy amount of health, sex, and longevity for green energy and beautiful vapor trains, electric cars & this country of what used to be innovation is now the greediest, most gluttonous deluded & in a daze country on the planet - & obese, though & grant exceptions - for the weight gain of anti-depressant medication - I know it's a bit disjointed but it makes sense.

I looked at college w/ sober eyes today - what beauty and comaraderie & sex & friendship & the feeling as you woke up you were surprised & overjoyed & had feelings of puppy love in your stomach.

The Ayahuasca Journal

Brad, if you persuade Ed to take this direction and if you decide to go with him and return as a totally new person, I will pay your ticket. It works. I have done it!!! If there is anyone in the world whom Ed trusts it is you. We can discuss this in person of over the phone. I should tell you that Ed does not know I am contacting you. There is a reason for me to do that. If you are one of those Americans who believe that treatment (not cure) should be in the exclusive realm of drugs, please discard this article and that will be the end of it.

Hope you are enjoying the rest of your summe(r).

Elegy for Nellie Diller

I was asked to write something about Nanny for the Memorial Service. Immediate thought was Henry Miller - "No more elegies..." - what he meant, in my humble opinion, was that it must be a celebration of life and not a fixation of death - because thoughts remind us of our own mortality. I'll say this about Nanny - I always had a wonderful time around the holidays - those times together made me a Steelers fan and Pirates fan. Nanny made sure that I didn't horse-around on the coach.

Part of the reason is I was up half the night hyperventilating about presents

Nanny brought us together and the way - I granted Nanny's wishes (when I saw her last fall - she said - when I was on the road, first to Greenville, then Cabot, then Natrona Heights, to "stop fooling around and get back to your mother" - and I did Mom.

It was unfortnate I had to miss the funeral because I had planned a trip to Peru and I felt as though I could maybe catch a flight back or take the Paoli to Pittsburgh train - but the timetable didn't allow it.

Her crassness perhaps stemmed from the love she felt she deserved. I remember her truning to me when we had a BBQ with Steve's mother and brother say "wouldn't you?" directing her gaze to Chris and Jess, "...come in and see your Grandmother when you just get here?"
'Now we're in for it,' i thought.

I never heard Nanny raise her voice except in a "clarifying manner." She was well read and may I remind you an Ivy Leaguer and I always aspired to graduate from a good school because of that.

But the reason I did this vindication I'll call it a tribute, a celebration, is because I missed her - and she always has a divine image in my mind - saint-like I must admit. Overarchingly, she had a will to "live" that most people dare not believe. She's a survivor, a bringer together of people. And also lets follow further Henry Miller's statement to keep Jesus in your heart, keep Buddha in your heart (follow the will of your own consciousness), keep Nanny in your heart. There she shall live eternally. Amen.

Dec. 5, 2009

-IN AN HOUR I'LL TAKE AYAUASCA, SACRED VINE OF THE INCAS, UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF DON AGUSTIN, SHAMAN OF THE VILLAGE OF YUSHINTITA, PERU, WHERE THE AMAZON RIVER RUNS OVER PLANK BOARDS IN ONE GREAT {SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON-LIKE} PALM FROND SHELTER (2500 OR SO SPECIES PLANTED ON DON AGUSTIN'S WIFE'S PROPERTY

WE JUST GOT DONE PLAYING FUTBOL, ED, LOUIS, & i LOST TO THREE VILLAGERS (TWO OF WHICH ARE AYAYUASCEROS, APPRENTICES TO DON AGUSTINE), SCORE 9-6 - OF COURSE, I PLAYED WITHOUT GLASSES & JUST TO PROVE A POINT I SHOT A BALL FROM APPROXIMATELY 25 YARDS AWAY & MADE AN UPPER-90 SHOT OFF THE SIDE POST & IN. I'M TOLD THE PERUVIANS HAVE GREAT SOCCER PLAYERS BUT A POOR ORGANIZATION WE SPENT DINNER TAKING MEDICINES MEDICINAS & ONE OF THE VILLAGERS BROUGHT OVER A BUNCH OF FISH THAT HE HAD CAUGHT WITH MY FLY ROD {IN A BUCKET - STOCKING POHOQUALINE STYLE} - DON AGUSTINE SAYS THAT THE WATER LOOKS LIKE WHISKEY BECAUSE OF ALL THE SALT IN THE RIVER.

WE'RE DRINKING TEA (THAT IS, ED AND I) OUT OF PITCHERS - & I HAVE FINISHED ABOUT 2 GALLONS OF TEA (GINGER TEA TO CLEAN OUT YOUR PROSTATE)

DURING DINNER DON AGUSTINE TOLD STORIES ABOUT TOURISTS - MOST OF THEM FATALITIES OR HEALING STORIES HE ALSO DISPELLED APOCRYPHAL INFORMATION ABOUT POISONS IN THE RAINFOREST (I NEGLECTED TO BRING UP GOTU KOLA) BUT HE NODDED AFTER I TOLD HIM ABOUT TAKING KAVA PEPPER). FOR SPIDER BITES HE RECOMMENDED SQUASHING THE SPIDER AND PASTING IT ACROSS THE MARK.

I WAS JUST INTERRUPTED BY THE VILLAGERS CATCHING A BIG FISH - WHICH LOOPED THE GREEN LINE AROUND THE PLASTIC COVERING - THE OUTER PART I REMOVED (AFTER SOME PROBLEMS FIGURING OUT HOW TO OPEN IT & TOLD THEM {LOUIS TRANSLATING OF COURSE} WE WOULD EXPLORE THE RIVER FURTHER TOMORROW & UNTIL THEN, USE IT ALL DAY & THEY LAUGHED

I VOMITED UNCONTROLLABLY LAST NIGHT AFTER 2 HOURS OF CATATONIC SHOCK & I CRIED OUT TO GOD AND DON AGUSTINE TO SAVE ME - AFTER PURGING MYSELF - I FELT BETTER & DON AGUSTIN & HIS WIFE HOVERED AROUND ME AFTER I VOMITED - I CLUTCHED MY BEADS AND CALLED OUT TO GOD TO SAVE ME. WHEN DON AGUSTIN WAS HOVERING OVER ME I THOUGHT I SAW HIS FACE CHANGE SHAPE INTO AN INCA LIKE FACE - & HE WAS MASSAGING & HEALING ME. NOT "EYES" LIKE MOST PEOPLE PAINT - BUT A FACE LIKE EDMUNDO MORALES' - PLAIN (I PRAYED TO BE HEALED).

THE WORKERS (I USE WORKERS AND VILLAGERS AND AYAUASCEROS INTERCHANGEABLY BECAUSE THEY ALL WORKED AT DON AGUSTIN'S CAMP) SAID THEY SAW A VISION THAT I WOULD WIN THE SOCCER GAME TODAY - I JUST HOPE NOT TO OVERHEAT

FERNANDO (A VISITING DOCTOR) WHO WAS SITTING NEXT TO ME - VOMITED THE MOST

LOIS - VOMITED FIRST & SAID HE WAS FLOATING AWAY IN A SPACESHIP I'M APPREHENSIVE ABOUT (AHH) THE NEXT SESSION BUT I'M CONFIDENT I CAN DO WELL.
I WAS AFRAID OF DYING DURING THE CEREMONY BUT - THE STRENGTH OF THE AYAHUASCA - KIND OF FORCED ME TO VOMIT EVEN THOUGH I TRIED TO FIGHT IT.
DUNNO WHETHER I'LL BE BACK NEXT YEAR - BUT DON AGUSTIN SAYS ED WILL BE BACK WITH A WOMAN.

IF I DON'T COME BACK I'LL BE SURE TO SEND MANY GIFTS TO THE VILLAGE/CAMP

2:44 P.M. THURSDAY 12/10/09

I'VE TAKEN MY SECOND AYAHUASCA TRIP (TWO DAYS AGO & FELT VERY HEALTHY & REFRESHED THE NEXT MORNING - OR PERHAPS IT WAS THE DAY OF - BUT I'VE SINCE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH (0) RRHEA - SPERMATORRHEA - WHAT HAVE YOU.

PABLO MARINGA

DON AGUSTINE SAYS THAT HE'S HAD (0) RRHEA BEFORE AND HAS BEEN CURED SO I'M NOT WORRRIED & I'VE HAD IT SINCE 2007 SO WHAT'S A LITTLE (UN POQUITO) LONGER

I'VE SMOKED PROBABLY 75 CIGARS (HAND ROLLED CIGARS W/ TOBACCO THAT COMES THROUGH - IT'S ONLY WHEN I SMOKE REGULAR FILTERED CIGARETTES THAT I GET A WRETCHED COUGH. I'VE GONE ON FISHING TRIPS WITH LOUIS, HUHI (PRONOUNCED HOO-HEE) DUNNO HOW TO SPELL HIS LAST NAME (& WE PLAY SOCCER EVERY DAY)

I CRIED IN THE WOODS YESTERDAY ON THE WAY TO VIEHO'S CAMP - A MILE INTO THE JUNGLE

*****STUDY LATITUDE & LONGITUDE ******

FOLKLORICO - DRUMS AND DANCING

I'VE PROBABLY LOST SOME WEIGHT ALTHOUGH NOT MUCH BECAUSE OF THE DIET

I JUST HAD A HUGE SHOT OF ANTIBIOTICS INTO MY RIGHT BUTTOCK & HAVE THREE PILLS (ORAL - FOR DIGESTION) DON AGUSTIN SAID A SPIRIT SPOKE TO HIM (OR KEPT HIM UP, I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH) & TOLD HIM ABOUT THE HOSPITAL TRIP I HAVE CUTS & BRUSH BURNS AND BLISTERS FROM PLAYING SOCCER TOO MUCH - & THEY INSIST INCESSANTLY (HEE HEE) THAT I PLAY EVERY AFTERNOON.

I'M HAPPY WITH THE WAY I'M CONNECTING WITH EVERYONE HERE AT CAMP AND PLAN TO BE BACK HERE NEXT YEAR.

I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF MY PARENTS MUCH (EXCEPT WITH DISTASTE & MAYBE DON AGUSTIN CAN HELP ME WITH THAT). I'LL BE TAKING JUST A QUARTER GLASS OF AYAHUASCA (SAME AMOUNT AS DON AGUSTINE). THE LAST CEREMONY WAS INCREDIBLY POWERFUL DIAMOND (DIAMENTE I BELIEVE IT'S CALLED) DIAMENTE AYAHUASCA, AYAHUASCA DIAMENTE

A GROUP OF TWO CAME FROM CHILE WITH VIEHO YESTERDAY & HE HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, IS A MASTER PYRAMID ARCHITECT, SKETCHING A WHOLE CAMP DESIGN RIGHT OUTSIDE THE STEPS OF HIS CAMP & HE COMFORTED ME WHEN I STARTED CRYING ABOUT MY DOG (& MOST CERTAINLY HAVE UNRESOLVED FEELINGS ABOUT IT) WE'RE ABOUT TO GO PLAY

DON AGUSTIN/ STAYING IN OXFORD, TOOK A PLANE TO LONDON & AFTER AN AYAHUASCA CEREMONY, HER (QUEEN ELIZABETH II) FOOT HEALED & PRESENTED HIM WITH HER GOLD WALKING STICK WITH EBONY STAFF - WHICH IS NOW IN A MUSEUM IN PUCALPA - AMAZING UNBELIEVABLE STORY - AND HE SUGGESTED A TRIP - ALTHOUGH TRYING TO READ HIS EYES I GUESSED THAT DON AGUSTINE - WHO CAN READ PEOPLE'S MINDS TELEPATHICALLY I GATHER, WILL NOT SEE ME BACK HERE NEXT YEAR & PERHAPS i WILL SUGGEST VIEHO'S CAMP FOR JAKE & ASHLEY

Sitting in on Prof. Morales' course; recall
Emphasis on words
Liked that he used notecards - he had an almost trance -like appearance - eyes-closed, half lids perhaps, but he spoke in an unconscious manner
liked that at the 3/4 point he asked if there was questions
"erotic dance" - breast navel, sip from bowl, all sexual references, aroused the class & said with impunity

"how are you doing with the reading" - in going through things in a book
-relate two/three stories
-"don't want to get too heavily into this subject or else I'll never finish"

chacra chacara - 'plot of land'
pukullay - 'play'
India - female (play with)
Indio - male
Aya - corpse

"names" at the end of class
"to tie all this together" is a good phrase

Ecuador Zve (?) - President of Family
35% of family killed by mudslides
after piece of 3rd largest mountain
collapses Cusco, Peru

cite - videos
soles, sight of children's face - mother seeing 300 soles - never seen so much money in your life.

midterms annced at start of class
yawns - remarked with displeasure
*note - yawns are an energizing breath - if you are commenting about reenergizing breath - don't be gay about it "from Mars"

Overall, I was stimulated by Professor Morales' lecture on erotic dances, Quechua culture - sex taboos - sexual expression. Because of the female dynamic in the classroom he made good use of the blackboard, his movement side to side, back to front, was good, his getting down to a personal level with students was good. He singled out an older student in class {Recall "recession jobs"} 'maybe you'll (the student) 'll appreciate this. You don't have the advantage of personal experience - I know people who are 40/50 years old take up teaching.' An emphasis on getting the students (older that is) involved - "You looked puzzled, do you have a question?" - and the student did on _____ naturalia & ______ illegitima.

Burps into his notecard - no watter - advantage or disadvantage?
-there are movements, gesticulations in me that are not to be misinterpreted (ie scratching head for raising hand
"Are those pesticides imported?"

A way must be found to establish fact/truth into class

"sending out your curriculum vitae" to schools - ultimately what you are doing - selling yourself

Rimbaud envy

I have become a Rimbaud-phile and here's why take a gander at Graham Robb's passage:

"In the last three years, Rimbaud had spent about fifteen months at home and about twenty-one at sea or on the road. He had visited thirteen different countries - excluding coastlines seen from the deck of a ship - and travelled over 32,000 miles. He already had more than enough material for his anecdotage. He had worked as a pedlar, an editorial assistant, barman, farm laborer, language teacher, private tutor, factory worker, docker, mercenary, sailor, tout, cashier and interpreter, and he was about to add a few more jobs on the list. On almost every occasion, he had done something for which he was not previously qualified.
Though he lacked the most ordinary qualification of all - the baccalaureat - he had a working knowledge of five languages, had seen more sights and experienced more interesting intoxications than an English lord on the Grand Tour, published a book, been arrested in three countries and repatriated from three others. The most he had ever earned from his writing had been a free subscription to a magazine, but he had left behind a body of work that would one day open up new regions of the mind to poetic explorers. He had begged, been to jail, committed aproximately twelve imprisonable offences with impunity, and survived war, revolution, illness, a gunshot wound, his own family and the Cape of Good Hope. He had been intimate terms with some of the most remarkable writers and political thinkers of the age.
The Arthur Rimbaud who eventually washed up on the shores of East Africa was not a helpless innocent."

I wanted to add this passage from "Tramping with Tramps" from the legend Josiah Flynt:

"...although I learned to ride in freight cars with as much peace of mind and often more comfort than in passenger-coaches, there was always something strange to me in the fact that I never bought a ticket. During my first trip to Hoboland, which lasted, eight continuous months, I must easily have traveled over twenty thousand miles, and there were not more than ten occasions during the entire experience when any payment was demanded of me..."

The Real Velocipede Bicycle Project

1112_futureboston1_main

This blog inside a blog is devoted to another passion of mine besides nutrition, which is the railway velocipede bicycle, which, if I cross my fingers, will provide a lucrative tourism business in the future, once the commuter trains have limited access during the later winter, late fall, which is the sort of anti-Poconos, anti-tourism-tourism, if you're not a skier or overlook fall colors (There is a model of rail velocipede that can ride under the tracks like this train at the top of Boston's Futures Past).

Anyhoo, I want to publish this exerpt from a book on velocipede which is quite fascinating:

"The power and advantages of velocipedes have been well advocated during the past year in the scientific periodicals, and some of the arguments are interesting. The one gentleman points out that "walking requires a tractive force equal to 1-13th of the man's weight. A wheeled vehicle on a gravel road (which is one of the worst) requires 1-16th of the gross weight; on a well-macadamized road about 1-40th; on the best London pavement 1-70th; on well laid flagstones 1-180th; and on a railway 1-224th. If we take a man's expenditure of force in rowing or working a velocipede as equal to 53 foot pounds per second, and 30 miles equal to a day's walking, we shall find that a man weighing 150 pounds on a velocipede weighing 80 pounds (and we should remember that the weight of the best bicycles does not exceed 56 pounds) will travel on a road where the traction is 1-40th from 50 to 60 miles easier than he will walk 30, even if he uses a four-wheeler. On the best London pavement he might travel 90-100 miles, and on a railroad about 270 miles a day."

List of items required to build a bike (6'8" wide when folded, lightest 56 lbs w/out attachment, max speed 20 mph):

1. Boring bar -

(the boring bar can slide in the bar or arbor, to or from each other, to the limit of length of the lugs. The halves are held apart by liners, the whole held by nuts at the ends in usual way. The holes are flanged as shown in the engraving, giving an increased threaded surface, from the usual 1/2-inch to about 7/8 inch. A plug can be taken out and returned any number of times with certainty of being tight.

2. Frame (made of steel tubing)

3. Connections - made of drop forgings
4. Ball bearings
5. Tangent spoke wheels
6. Parts nickeled in bicycle are same
7. Wheel rims
(made of No. 16 gage tire steel beaded outwardly at outer edge, and in at the center, to give the greatest strength possible)
8. 2 Reinforced rail flanges made to M.C.B. standard for front and small auxiliary wheels
*the flange of 24-inch forward wheel can be adjusted with the handle bars by the operator, to run toward or from the rail, thereby making it possible to pass around the sharpest curves and over imperfect or worn frog points at a high rate of speed without danger. Also, when running over straight track the operator can adjust forward wheel so that the flange will run free from the rail, and thus avoid any unnecessary friction.
9. NO RAIL FLANGE FOR REAR WHEEL, it being in line with the forward wheel, frame very rigid, tread sufficiently wide to make derailment impossible.
10. Auxiliary wheel (11-inch diameter), has rail flange, constructed throughout same as larger wheels.
11. 3 (3/16" inch thick, 3"" wide) continuous rubber bands - on tread. (cause car to run noiselessly).

Vision has now expanded to the possibility of steam engines attached to railway velocipede bicycles with hydroelectric power stations for refueling.
Full vision of train station project:

Other ideas from the Velocipede Folder, a part of the full Vision for future rail travel in America:
Delaware Canal State Park 11 Lodi Hill Rd. Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972 delawarecanalsp@state.pa.us (from RailTrails PA, but conceivably could transition to a real rail trail).

Another great fact from a pocketbook PA Railtrails:

The original:

The Wilkes-Barre and Eastern Railroad, built in 1893, ran for 62 mountainous miles between Wilkes-Barre and Stroudsburg. It operated as a branch of the Erie Railroad, but was never very successful. After suffering damage in the flood of 1936, the hapless line was abandoned in 1939.

LOCATED NEAR BIG POCONO STATE PARK, THE TRAIL OPENED IN 1954. Only a 1 mile section is open at this time. To reach the trail, take exit 45 from I-80 and head south on Route 715. Turn right onto Railroad Ave. and follow it approximately 1 mile to the trailhead, which is on the right.
